Martin Farrar ACII - Director
Martin joined Independent Appointments in 1988 and became co-owner of the company following an MBO in October 2004. He began his insurance career in 1972 with Legal & General, becoming a corporate broker at Bowrings in 1974 and subsequently moving into a development role with Cornhill 10 years later. Martin is responsible for co-managing the company but maintains an active involvement in recruitment, concentrating on commercial appointments at all levels throughout the Yorkshire region.
Steve has worked for Independent Appointments since 1996, after spending 18 years as a commercial underwriter with Sun Alliance primarily in Leeds and Bradford. With a lengthy career in the Yorkshire insurance industry, Steve has unrivalled and invaluable local market knowledge. He specialises in, and complements, the team in the recruitment of commercial and senior personal lines staff across all sectors within the Leeds & Yorkshire area.
Simon Hemingway ACII, CPRS - Senior Managing Consultant
Simon joined Independent Appointments in 2003 having previously spent 3 years in insurance recruitment. Prior to this, he spent 11 years as a commercial underwriter working for General Accident and Sun Alliance in Leeds. Simon is responsible for leading the Leeds General Insurance Team and specialises in the recruitment of both commercial and senior personal lines personnel within Yorkshire for both insurer and broker markets.
Gillian joined Independent Appointments in 1992 as an office administrator/receptionist and after several promotions became a Managing Consultant in 2001 based out of the Head Office in Leeds. She has responsibility for the recruitment of personal lines, general administration and call centre staff throughout Yorkshire, working closely with both insurance company and broker clients. Gillian is also responsible for recruiting callcentre personnel within the the South East region.
Simon joined the company in 1998 having previously gained extensive experience in the underwriting, broking, risk management and recruitment sectors. He commenced his career at Ecclesiastical before joining Sheffield broker Cooke & Mason for 7 years. He works across all product areas but has primary responsibility for executive positions throughout the South of England whilst concurrently managing the South West operation. Simon also undertakes the National Account Manager role throughout the General Insurance and Financial Services divisions in the UK.
Midlands Consultant Gemma Hopkins joined Independent Appointments in March 2008 with 4 years General Insurance recruitment background. She has since grown her desk from the Midlands region to recruiting for the East Anglia and Home Counties regions alike. As an experienced consultant Gemma is able to offer a solid understanding of candidate requirements as well as expert advice in all areas of recruitment needs and demands.
Martin entered the insurance industry in 1986 with the Guardian Royal Exchange and having progressed his career to Senior Commercial Underwriter joined Lombard Continental in 1997 as a Corporate Sales & Development Executive. Martin moved into recruitment in 2000 and in September 2002 joined Independent Appointments where he acts as Regional Manager for the North West and provides a service as Senior Consultant within the Insurance and Legal sectors.
Ollie has worked for Independent Appointments for over 3 years and manages General Insurance recruitment activity covering both the Commercial and Claims sectors in both company and broker environments. Prior to this Ollie worked at Independent Insurance for 6 years as a Commercial Underwriter and for 2 years in recruitment at Badenoch & Clark.
Jo initially spent over 5 years working for two legal practices in Criminal, Matrimonial & Personal Injury Departments before joining Independent Legal Appointments in October 2000. Jo specialises in the recruitment of all Legal staff including secretaries, paralegals and solicitors in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, operating from a base in Sheffield.

Claire Warburton - PA/Support Consultant
Claire joined Independent Appointments in September 2007 as a Personal Assistant to the consultants within the Manchester office. Claire has since progressed within the company and now takes on the role of Personal Assistant/Support Consultant to our North East region in addition to retaining some of her support role within the North West. Claire's background prior to joining Independent Appointments includes, Resource Consultancy work for another recruitment operation and a role within the insurance industry at a local insurance broker.
Sarah joined Independent Appointments in August 2006 as a Personal Assistant to provide support to the Consultants within the General Insurance Team. Prior to joining, Sarah worked for eight years within recruitment administration as a senior member of the team dealing with all administration.
Leanne Renhard - Personal Assistant
Leanne has worked at Independent Appointments since 2004. Her role is to provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Consultants and to ensure the smooth running of the office, as well as working closely to support our National Account Manager with the administration in this area.
Gemma Henderson - Personal Assistant
Gemma joined the team in April 2008 to assist with providing administrative and secretarial support. She works closely with Gemma Hopkins to ensure the recruitment process runs as efficiently as possible. Previously Gemma studied Biochemistry at York University for a year and a half before commencing full time employment.
Louise McCluskey - Senior PA
Louise began supporting the General Insurance, Legal & Financial Services divisions of Independent Appointments, Manchester office, in May 1996, building on a secretarial career that spanned 6 years previously, at the Department of Education, Manchester University. She provides unrivalled knowledge of our needs and systems in giving the support our consultants require.
Julie Gregg - Personal Assistant
Julie provides full PA support to the Consultants. Julie has been with Independent Appointments for nearly 20 years and provides invaluable market and technical knowledge.
Tanya Widdop - Personal Assistant
Tanya joined Independent Appointments as a Personal Assistant in January 2007 having worked for the previous 4 years in various administrative roles. She provides full administration support to the Consultants.
